The Democrats have lost again as another member of their party is jumping ship to join the Republican Party. Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Harriet Holman, a member of the City Council of Dorchester County, South Carolina, has announced that she is switching parties and is now running for reelection as a Republican.
According to Holman, there are three key issues that were the last straw that led to her decision to switch parties: abortion, capitalism, and supporting the police.
“I am just totally pro-life and I am about capitalism and I am for funding the police, and those things are what made me make my final decision,” Holman said in a conversation with Fox & Friends First on Wednesday, February 23rd, less than 24 hours after becoming a Republican.
The retired Army Lt. Col. said that she had always been a Democrat because of the influence of growing up in a Democrat family, but after careful reflection and discussions with close friends and family members has decided to jump ship to the GOP.
“It wasn’t an easy decision,” but “it was not too hard of a transition at all,” Holman said.
“And, now that I have done it, I am very much at ease with it, very much happy with my decision and I’m enjoying being a Republican, for a mere 24 hours,” she added.
According to Holman, the Democrats have lost their path by ignoring “dining room table” issues — like inflation.
“One of the things I think they should be focusing on is the things that people are talking about at the dining room table,” she said. “At the dining room table we talk about a lot of things, and one of the biggest things that we’re are talking about right now is inflation.”
The South Carolina Republican Party welcomed Holman into the party with a tweet, writing: “The LAST Democrat on Dorchester County Council switched to the Republican Party! We’re excited to welcome Councilwoman Harriet Holman to our Party & look forward to strengthening our communities through our conservative values.”
