There is a serious buzz right now about the 2024 election.
Primary season is about to heat up and several key Democrats have yet to announce if they are going to run again.
Honestly, all but one of them would be in for a major fight.
But if they step down, most of these seats are ripe for a Republican takeover.
Chicken Before the Egg
I will no longer talk of a red wave after getting burned last year.
However, when I saw these names, I was very hopeful for a GOP-controlled Senate in 2024.
Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has already announced that she is going to step down.
Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) has yet to announce, and for good reason.
Manchin’s poll numbers are horrible right now, so he may choose to go another route just to hope that Dems can hold the seat.
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is more or less a walking corpse.
Her seat will go to a Democrat, but it is high time she gets put out to pasture.
Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) was recently diagnosed with cancer, so we will have to monitor his treatment to see if he is even up for a campaign.
Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) is in a state that is turning redder by the day, so he may choose to go out on his own terms rather than getting shamed in defeat.
Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is another interesting case, with Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) pulling out a big win in 2022.
Democrats are defending 23 of the 34 seats up for grabs, and the GOP only needs to flip two of those seats to get the majority.
It is going to make for a very interesting 2024 election.
