Two-term Georgia State Representative Mesha Mainor recently announced her switch from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.
This monumental decision is a breath of fresh air for all Republicans in the state and serves as an example to other Democrats that it’s okay to think differently than their own party.
Mainor represents the 56th district in Atlanta, which is khttps://patriotunitednews.com/democrat-abandon…ges-radical-left/nown for being a blue district. Despite this fact, she still made the move to better serve her constituents and stay true to her convictions.
She posted on Twitter “I will never apologize for being a black woman with a mind of my own” and later added “The Democrat Party left ME when it embraced left-wing radicalism, lawlessness, and put the interests of illegal aliens over the interest of Americans. I have nothing to apologize for”. It’s clear that Mainor felt strongly about making this change despite what her colleagues may think.
My name is Rep. Meisha Mainor and today I made the decision to leave the Democrat Party.
I represent a blue district in the city of Atlanta so this wasn’t a political decision for me. It was a a MORAL one.

The top-line issue for Mainor has been school choice – specifically Senate Bill 233 which would have created $6,500 vouchers for students at schools performing in the bottom 25 percent in Georgia – allowing parents to send their children to either private schools or pursue homeschooling instead.
In March she broke Democrat ranks by voting yes on this bill but was met with much resistance from her own party who demanded every Democrat vote against children and teachers unions.
In response she said “I voted ‘Yes’ for parents and ‘Yes’ for children. Not failing schools. Some of the schools I represent have a 3 percent reading proficiency or children can’t do simple math.” Clearly no matter how unpopular it was with her peers she stayed true to what she believed was right – showing strength and courage we can all aspire too!
I didn’t leave the Democrat Party.
The Democrat Party left ME when it embraced left-wing radicalism, lawlessness, and put the interests of illegal aliens over the interest of Americans.
I have nothing to apologize for.

GA State Representative Mesha Mainor – then a Democrat – called out her Dem colleagues in March while supporting school choice: “You don’t have to treat me so badly because I am trying to help the children in my community."

Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp responded positively by tweeting “We welcome Representative Mainor to our party and look forward to working with her on issues for the benefit of hardworking Georgians” while other state GOP leaders shared similar sentiments showing they welcomed her onboard.
Hopefully more brave individuals like Mainer will follow suit giving hope that maybe one day both sides will come together again sharing similar ideals like liberty Americans used hold dear before recent political divides split us apart
