A CNN panelist on Thursday decided to attack vice-presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) for supposedly having “mommy issues” — a shockingly offensive reference to his mother who suffered from drug addiction.
While CNN had a fit earlier this week when Republican guest Ryan James Girdusky dared to clap back at a radical anti-Israel activist who had called him a Nazi — responding with a joke about hoping his pager didn’t explode, in reference to Israel detonating Hezbollah terrorists’ pagers — the network apparently draws the line in a very odd manner. Calling your political opponents Nazis is fine, calling a radical Muslim a member of Hezbollah is not fine, and making fun of a man for growing up with a drug addict mother is fine.
The shocking comments came from CNN guest panelist and radio host Tavis Smiley, and prompted no pushback.
CNN host Abby Phillip prompted the conversation by claiming that Vance was “coming after the men.”
“When you said he’s ‘coming after the men too,’ I think JD Vance has mommy issues, and it’s been fascinating for me to watch the way this has played out on the campaign trail,” Smiley responded.
Phillip did not push back or condemn his comments, instead simply raising an eyebrow at the suggestion.
Smiley continued: “And because of those issues, he has subjected women across the country to all his bad ideas and all his bad policy.”
He went on to suggest that Vance should have gone to therapy because it would have helped him to not inflict his “issues” on others — a hilarious suggestion from a leftist considering their entire political platform is based on making people’s feelings matter more than facts, celebrating mental illness, and allowing mentally ill people to force others to accept their delusions.
Smiley then continued his shocking attack on Vance for having a drug-addicted mother, stating: “Maya Angelou once told me that processing pain without perpetuating pain is rough business. So if you got mommy issues and you make everybody else in the country subject to that, that’s a real problem.”

Conservatives were quick to call out Smiley’s abhorrent comments and slam CNN for offering no pushback, with conservative communications strategist Greg Price pointing out the insensitivity of suggesting that Vance — “a guy who wrote extensively about growing up with a mother who struggled with drug addiction and how they overcame it” — had “mommy issues.”
“Host @abbydphillip responds by laughing,” Price added.

“So CNN immediately fires conservative hosts for nothing, but laughs at this. This network is real garbage,” another user wrote, referring to the firing of Ryan James Girdusky.

“Vile CNN guest says J.D. Vance has mommy issues. J.D.’s mother struggled and overcame drug addiction. These people are sick. This is exactly why people HATE CNN,” responded investigative reporter Drew Hernandez.
