The so-called “policy experts” who support open borders have admitted that Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) is right when he pointed out that “immigration increases housing prices” for Americans — while also declaring that phenomenon is “okay.”
The experts at the supposedly libertarian Cato Institute, which is known for defending open borders, published an article on Wednesday titled “JD Vance Is Correct: Immigration Increases Housing Prices, and That’s Okay.”
The piece came after Vance’s stellar performance at the vice-presidential debate on Tuesday evening, where he pointed out the obvious: “We don’t want to blame immigrants for higher housing prices, but we do want to blame Kamala Harris for letting in millions of illegal aliens into this country, which does drive up costs.”
Of course, the Democrats have insisted that this is a lie, proving their economic illiteracy — as it is obvious to any rational person that adding more people to a country, especially illegal aliens who are given taxpayer funds for housing, increases demand for homes, thus driving up prices because of competition.
Yes, this really happened.
MODERATOR: How does immigration impact housing and rental prices?
VANCE: More people competing for the same number of houses makes homes cost more.
MODERATOR: But what does that have to do with immigration?
VANCE: Immigrants are people.— The Robber Baron (@Robber_Baron_) October 2, 2024
Vance went on to explain: “Twenty-five million illegal aliens competing with Americans for scarce homes is one of the most significant drivers of home prices in the country. It’s why we have massive increases in home prices that have happened right alongside massive increases in illegal alien populations under Kamala Harris’s leadership.”

While Democrats tried to refute Vance’s claims, the leftist “libertarians” at the Cato Institute admitted that they were true.
“Vance is correct in saying that immigrants increase the price of houses,” the Cato Institute’s Alex Nowrasteh began.
“The intersection of supply and demand determines housing prices, like all prices. When housing supply curves are upward-sloping, increased demand from immigrants will increase housing prices. Immigrants are people who want roofs over their heads, after all,” the article continued.
“Bringing the discussion back to Springfield, Ohio, where Vance started, housing prices have increased there as more Haitian migrants have moved in,” Nowrasteh added. “According to Redfin, the median sale price of a single-family home sold there increased from $78,500 in August 2019 to $158,000 in August 2024, a 101 percent increase in nominal terms. The nationwide increase was 46 percent in nominal terms during the same period. That has made renters and first-time home buyers worse off in Springfield and homeowners, who are mostly native-born, better off.”

He said, "you have housing that is totally unaffordable because we brought in . . . immigrants to compete with Americans for scarce homes."
He's right and here's why.
