A cameraman who worked for CNN and several other outlets has been arrested for leaving a voicemail threatening to kill a prominent Republican congressman.
Eugene Huelsman, of California, was arrested for a January phone call to Florida GOP Representative Matt Gaetz’s office in which the cameraman threatened to kill Gaetz and shoot his children in a profanity-laced message.
The call was made three days after the Capitol riot took place. While the indictment was handed down by a grand jury in May of 2021, it was sealed until Huelsman’s arrest in mid-October.
The indictment against Huelsman does not mention Representative Matt Gaetz by name, it does refer to the target as M.G., and Gaetz has confirmed that he was the target of the threats in statements released to Fox News and several other news outlets.
“Tell [M.G.] to watch his back, tell him to watch his children,” Huelsman said during the voicemail, according to the indictment, which was obtained by Politico. “I’m coming for him, he’s gonna f—king die … I’m gonna f—king kill him.”
“Watch your back, I’m coming for you,” he allegedly continues. “I’m gonna put a bullet in you and I’m gonna put a bullet in one of your f—king kids too.”
Huelsman is a longtime cameraman in both TV and film, and has done work for left-wing propaganda shows like “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”
He has also worked for left-wing news outlets ABC and CNN.
Rep. Gaetz recently spoke on the House floor about how federal investigators have not been taking threats against him seriously, which isn’t a surprise considering how politicized our federal bureaucracy has become. Democrats have taken over those institutions and have decided to only investigate in one direction. In a statement to Politico, Gaetz said that he believes his statements on the House floor are the only reason that the arrest of Huelsman happened at all.
“An indictment was issued in May, and has now been unsealed the week after my criticism,” the congressman reportedly said. “If they took our security seriously, they would arrest all of the people who violate federal law and the threats to kill us, not just some of them … I think that the Department of Justice is biased against Republicans.”
