The city of Baltimore, Maryland, can’t stop cops from fleeing their force in droves. Ignoring the fact that liberal prosecutors turn all the criminals loose while painting a big target on the back of every officer, officials think throwing money around will solve the problem. They’re now trying to hire the highest paid cops in the area. With standards dropped to “warm body,” the sadists working for Memphis could turn out seeming like boy scouts in comparison.
Baltimore needs cops now
The Baltimore Police Department, for some strange reason, “lost hundreds of officers last year.” The skyrocketing rate of shootings, armed robberies and carjackings finally prompted action.
Judge James K. Bredar joined police leadership to “sound the alarm that the rate of cops leaving the force.” It’s become “unsustainable, and the city cannot bear to lose even more in 2023.”
As Judge Bredar declares, “I can’t overstate the seriousness of the staffing issue.” He said it in a “police consent decree hearing this month.” The city of Baltimore “lost about 279 officers in 2022,” the judge pointed out in court.

They currently have 2,150 officers on the force. That means, right now, “the city is short at least 600 officers.” The city’s Fraternal Order of Police President Mike Mancuso agrees completely.
There’s only one solution, Mancuso suggests. Baltimore PD needs to throw serious cash at the problem. “make BPD the highest paid Police Department in the area.” Police “working conditions need to improve drastically.”
That means actually putting criminals behind bars, which isn’t going to happen in the conceivable future. If they aren’t willing to prosecute and imprison law breakers, the only incentive to become a cop is money and the chance to legally carry a gun and push people around.
monetarily incentivize cops
It’s money that matters in Maryland. The union president demands an overhaul of retention policies to “monetarily incentivize cops to stay on the force.” In other words, bribe them to keep working despite the deadly danger they face every time they put on the uniform.
“If that is not done, we can all be assured that the mayor and commissioner are just defunding that Baltimore Police Department in an undercover manner and have no concern for the safety of the public.”
There is way too much lead flying around the streets of Baltimore for the pay cops are getting now. Lowering the risk through prosecution and stiff sentencing is out of the question so the only alternative is cold hard cash.

They have the second highest homicide rate in the nation. There were already 22 this year and the first month isn’t over. The staffing shortages are getting worse every day.
Mancuso pointed out that “four officers walked into the Southwest District and resigned earlier this month.” After dumping their badges on the supervisor’s desk, they “took positions at the Anne Arundel County Police Department.”
They got more money already, along with a jurisdiction which prosecutes crime. In other words both “better working conditions and pay.” Criminals in Baltimore are grinning from ear-to-ear. They’re running the city now.
