City Decides Screw Defunding Police, Does the EXACT Opposite

When city officials in the conservative town of Warsaw, Indiana heard the cries to defund the police they said “screw that.” They aren’t totally insane and understand the meaning of law and order. Three months ago Mayor Joe Thallemer (Say his name!) promised to see what he could do to put a little extra in the pockets of police officers. He just came through in a big way.

This city FUNDS the police

The city of Warsaw, Indiana went out of their way to show appreciation for their heroes in blue.

Following the old adage of “no applause, just throw money,” Mayor Joe Thallemer and a “three-person wage committee” put their heads together to come up with a way to “boost all officers’ pay by $200 per two-week pay period.” That means an extra $400 per month in the pay envelopes.

Overall, the change works out on paper as a “10% increase in base pay.” They are certain that each and every one of their officers are worth every penny of it.

They’re getting ready to absorb the extra $187,000 per year the city will be paying out. They’re already at their full quota of staff, boasting 42 officers.

According to city human resources director Jennifer Whitaker, they’re also considering “a pay hike for the second half of 2021 for 32 officers.”

The officials didn’t have to fight very hard for the increased funding. Their proposal “received unanimous support in a preliminary vote.” After a second vote scheduled later this month which is expected to go just as well, the raises will hit the streets in June.

More competitive offers

While the city Board of Works and Safety also needs to sign off on the measure, that’s expected as a formality. Mayor Thallemer was especially thankful for “the work of the wage committee, council members Cindy Dobbins, Diane Quance and Jeff Grose.”

Raising salaries in the middle of a funding year is an unusual move but an entire year of lawless rioting and propaganda attacks against law enforcement make this year special.

Every city in America is having a really rough time recruiting police officers and that means that as soon as the rookies get out of training, headhunters from everywhere come out of the woodwork trying to lure them to places like Portland or Chicago with enormous pay packages.

They don’t mention that life expectancy of a cop in those places is somewhere around 15 minutes these days.

Ms. Whitaker is thrilled with the Mayor’s latest move. “We really have to get aggressive with these wages for these officers and this is a good start.” The city officials were amazed when they did a study and found out that they hadn’t been paying their officers as well as some of their neighbors.

When they learned of the discrepancy they were quick to correct it. “It was quite an eye-opener to see that we weren’t really measuring up to the task in what we were paying our base patrol officers. Once we delved into it, we just had to make this effort.”
