It looks like this Robbinsdale City Council member is facing some serious charges because he was driving drunk and fleeing from a police officer after he had an incident near Highway 100 in the state of Minnesota.
The Robbinsdale Police Department arrested city council member Tyler Kline shortly after midnight on a Monday morning after he was caught going the wrong way down the highway while he had apparently been drinking.
Kline is also facing a felony charge of fleeing a police officer during this same incident.
Prosecutors described how Kline had been driving a minivan when he was involved in this wrong-way crash on Highway 100.
After the accident, police said that Kline left the scene of the accident and continued to drive southbound on those northbound lanes of Highway 100. It wasn’t long before a Crystal police officer spotted him going the wrong way down the exit ramp at France Avenue North.
The officer performed evasive action in an attempt to block Kline’s minivan from returning to the highway.
However, the police report noted that Kline simply went around the patrol car, speeding away from the officer yet again.
Officers chased the minivan to County Road 81 and it was still going the wrong way. They eventually were able to utilize a pit maneuver to stop the van. Kline refused to exit the vehicle after the crash until the officers forcefully removed him. He had the strong smell of alcohol at the time, according to officers.
He was tested later and his blood-alcohol level was at .20, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08 according to the police report.
The city council member would ultimately bond out of the Hennepin County Jail.
Despite calls from other city council members to resign, he has vowed to remain in his position for now. If Kline is not able to get his felony charge dropped at his trial, he could be forcefully removed from the Robbinsdale City Council.
