Liz Cheney only has a couple more months in office, but she landed one more shot against former President Donald Trump.
Cheney was able to get her electoral legislation on the floor.
The legislation passed along party lines, with the only GOP members to support it being the ones that will be out of office in January.
One More Shot
Cheney was hoping to close what she deemed to be loopholes in the 1887 Electoral Count Act.
Her legislation completely removes the VP from the certification process.
It will also raise the number of objectors needed to push back on an electors count.
Even though the legislation passed the House, it will probably not make it through the Senate.
Many believe her legislation is a bit too broad, so the Senate was also writing its own version of the bill that would keep the focus narrower.
Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) stated, “It’s clear that anything Liz Cheney touches is all about whacking Donald Trump and not about making meaningful changes.”
Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.) also chimed in, adding, “For me, it matters because you have two people who have been actively engaged in that committee dropping the [bill] like this … when there was the alternative to have the companion vote from the Senate.
“They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.”
