Intercoms within the Pentagon began sounding a warning soon after the shooting, telling individuals inside the building to remain indoors “due to police activity outside.”
No details about the incident have been released by the Pentagon, though an Associated Press reporter who was near the building did report hearing multiple gunshots. Another Associated Press reporter in the area also reported hearing police yelling “Shooter!”
“The Pentagon currently is on lock down due to an incident at the Pentagon Transit Center. We are asking the public to please avoid the area. More information will be forthcoming,” the official Twitter account for the Pentagon Force Protection Agency wrote.
