On Sunday, November 19, former President Bill Clinton made a shocking social media mistake after posting what he thought was a tribute to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who recently passed away at the age of 96. Instead of an intended tribute to the former first lady, Clinton shared an outdated statement regarding the passing of late Senator Dianne Feinstein from earlier in the year.

The 77-year-old Democrat quickly took down this erroneous post and replaced it with a more accurate one however, his error did not go unnoticed by social media users.

An account on X shared the faux pas, writing “Somebody is getting fired…Seriously – Bill Clinton, 77, accidentally releases tribute to DIANNE FEINSTEIN instead of Rosalynn Carter after Former first lady died aged 96”.

As expected, this incident stirred up some controversy among Democrats and Republicans alike. The Daily Mail reported that this was an embarrassment for the Democratic Party as they sought to pay their respects to Mrs. Carter.

Rosalynn Carter was married to 39th President Jimmy Carter who held office from 1977-1981 and is survived by her 99 year old husband as well as four children and eleven grandchildren. In life she was known for her mental health advocacy which helped people live without stigma and her early leadership on childhood immunization which benefitted millions of people across America.

Through her work at the Carter Center and Habitat for Humanity she spread hope and democracy around the world too many years before her death earlier this month while in hospice care following being diagnosed with dementia six months prior.

When speaking about his beloved wife’s passing Mr. Carter commented “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished” going on to say that throughout their long relationship she has provided him with wise guidance and unwavering support whenever he needed it most.
