Joe Biden has revisited an old topic during this SOTU address.
That being amnesty for illegal immigrants.
It failed last time he made the plea, and I would imagine the resistance is even greater now.
Not Happening
During last year’s address, Biden stated, “Provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, those on temporary status, farm workers, and essential workers. … That’s why immigration reform is supported by everyone from labor unions to religious leaders to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
“Let’s get it done once and for all.”
He pushed a similar message this year, but I do not see a deal getting done on this front.
At one point, Donald Trump had convinced Republicans to offer amnesty for DACA recipients to end the program.
Reluctantly, conservatives started to get on board, but Democrats turned down the proposal.
Now, with millions more in the country, and immigration numbers out of control, Biden wants to make a deal.
I can say fairly confidently that any Republican leadership position that negotiates such a deal will be spending his or her last term in office.
