An Amazon driver going about his daily deliveries was met with an unexpected guest on the property of one of the homes he was delivering to: a large black bear.

After arriving at a home in Upland, California, an Amazon driver was casually walking to make his delivery when he heard a voice shouting at him.

At the same time, the home’s resident, Joshua Morgan, had received an alert that a motion sensor had gone off in his yard. He was out shopping at the time, and checked his Ring Surveillance camera. As the driver walked up to the house, the homeowner spoke to him through his gate speaker, saying: “Stop right there, there’s a bear there!”

On the footage taken from the security camera, the bear can be seen casually sitting on top of the gate (picture below). The driver starts to back away before deciding to stay where he is, as the bear begins to move towards him.

“Go back to your car, that’s fine!” the homeowner can be heard yelling into the speaker.

A few seconds go by as the driver contemplates what to do next, before deciding to raise his arms, making himself appear bigger to the bear.

Surprisingly, the bear instantly backs away, and moves down off the wall. He eventually runs away and disappears from sight.

Following the shocking confrontation, the Amazon driver cautiously walks through the home’s gate to deliver the package.

In a message about the encounter emailed to Newsweek, Josh, the owner of the house, said: “We love catching wildlife on the cameras. By strategic positioning around the house, we’ve gotten some great footage besides the bear, including a mountain lion easily jumping one of our fences, a pack of six coyotes walking through the yard. Getting the motion alerts is helpful to know when it is or isn’t safe to go outside, especially with two young kids and a dog.”

“[The driver] seemed like he knew what to do and he kept calm,” he added. “We had a conversation with him through our front door camera, explaining we weren’t home, so we couldn’t help directly. My wife was watching the gate camera on her phone to ensure the bear really was still gone to give him the go ahead. We were watching his exit the whole time to ensure he safely left. We of course gave him permission to stay as long as he needed!”
