A world famous singer was on her way to headline a music festival when reports began to circulate on social media that her plane was struck by lightning.
Miley Cyrus was en route to Paraguay on March 23rd to headline the 2022 Asuncionico music festival when news began to circulate about her flight. According to reports, the plane was struck by lightning during an unanticipated storm.
After landing, the Grammy nominee took to her Instagram early in the morning to explain what had happened.
“To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción. Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting [sic],” Cyrus wrote.
“My crew , band , friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing. We were unfortunately unable to fly into Paraguay. I LOVE YOU,” she added.
In the post, the 29 year old singer also shared video of the storm taken from the plane, and a picture of the damage from the lightning strike.
“Miley and her travel party are safe,” a rep for Cyrus told E! News. “She will perform [at Asuncionico], pending that the festival doesn’t get canceled/postponed due to the flooding and inclement weather.”
This isn’t the first time Miley Cyrus had a close call on an airplane.
In 2019, while she was flying to the United Kingdom, her plane had to avoid two different close calls.
According to reports at the time, another plane was in her plane’s flying lane, causing the pilot to have to make a quick maneuver to avoid a mid-air collision.
After the pilot circled around to come in for a second attempted landing, the exact same thing happened again.
At the time, Miley’s sister Brandi Cyrus spoke about the terrifying incident, stating: “After 10 minutes of circulating us around, they go back to land again—same frickin thing happens!”
“My mom starts crying and goes, ‘If we die, Noah is alone’ and freaking out. I’m trying to hold it together for everybody,” she continued.
“It was really crazy. If I didn’t have to be the strong person in the group, I would have been scared but my mom and Miley were really losing it. It was pretty insane,” Brandi added.
