Alina Habba Leaves White House For A New Gig

President Donald Trump’s firebrand counselor Alina Habba has announced that she will be leaving the White House to take a new job: interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.

Habba has served as counselor to the president for his first two months in office, and previously served as his attorney for many years. Now, she is leaving the White House after just two months to take a very important position.

The firebrand attorney discussed the news while speaking with reporters outside of the White House on March 24, where she specifically highlighted her continuing loyalty to President Trump.

“As you know, I’ve stood by President Trump, his family, the organization, and many other clients in that state where I’ve been born and raised and I’m raising my babies now. But there is corruption, there is injustice, and there is a heavy amount of crime right in Cory Booker’s backyard and right under Governor Murphy, and that will stop,” Habba said, referring to Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D).

“I look forward to working with Pam Bondi and with the Department of Justice in making sure that we further the president’s agenda of putting America first, cleaning up mess, and going after the people that we should be going after, not the people that are falsely accused,” she added.

After one reporter asked her whether she would disclose the names of the people she intends to go after in her new job, Habba responded: “We’ll see when I get in there.”

Trump initially made the announcement in a post on Truth Social, writing: “It is with great pleasure that I am announcing Alina Habba, Esq., who is currently serving as Counselor to the President, and has represented me for a long time, will be our interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, her Home State, effective immediately!” Trump wrote in a statement on social media.

“Alina will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career, and she will fight tirelessly to secure a Legal System that is both ‘Fair and Just’ for the wonderful people of New Jersey,” Trump added. “Additionally, John Giordano, who has done a terrific job as the interim U.S. Attorney in New Jersey, will now be nominated as the new Ambassador to Namibia!”

Habba’s departure technically marks the first senior official to leave the White House in Trump’s second term, though the fact that she is going to continue working for the federal government means that it is not exactly a departure.
