The left just refuses to leave Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh alone. Democrats are now demanding an investigation after so-called “new information” came to light.
Tip Line
Democrats are trying to revive the Kavanaugh investigation after a letter sent by Democrat Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Chris Coons in 2019 resurfaced.
“The letter from the Department of Justice, released by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s office today, confirms what we knew: The FBI’s investigation into Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s serious allegations about Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s sexual misconduct was a sham and a major institutional failure. Not only did the FBI refuse to interview Dr. Ford or the corroborators listed in our letter to FBI Director Wray, it failed to act on the over 4,500 tips it received about then-nominee Kavanaugh. Instead, it handed the information over to the White House, allowing those who supported Kavanaugh to falsely claim that the FBI found no wrongdoing.”
According to the letter, the FBI tip line for the Kavanaugh investigation received over 4,500 tips. Democrats and their allies in the establishment media immediately threw a fit about this “new information.”
Media Hysteria
When reporting on the story, the mainstream media made outlandish claims about the “revelations”, with Politico alleging that because the tips were given to the Office of White House Counsel, the information “may have been dismissed or underinvestigated by the Trump administration as it sought to install Kavanaugh on the court.”
Reporting on the left’s meltdown, Reuters wrote that “Seven Democratic Senators on Thursday said that newly released materials show the FBI failed to fully investigate sexual misconduct allegations against U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh when he was nominated to the court in 2018.”
The New York Times joined in the hysteria, attempting to help revive the smear campaign. Times reporter Kate Kelly editorialized: “The letter left uncertain whether the FBI itself followed up on the most compelling leads.”
Of course, the establishment media and the Democrats conveniently chose left out some key information about these tips that completely negates their concerns.
Debunked
National Review’s John McCormack wrote a scathing piece debunking the left’s claims, asserting that they had omitted key details that would show that the majority of these tips were frivolous.
“The Times’ report leaves out three key details that would have helped both to clear the air and to clear Kavanaugh’s name,” the reporter began.
According to McCormack, the first key detail that was left out was that “the FBI’s supplemental investigation was always supposed to be limited in time and scope.”
Despite the left’s insistence that the investigation was rushed, they actually agreed to the terms. A bipartisan agreement made in the Senate limited the FBI’s supplemental background investigation to just one week, and also affirmed that they would only be investigating “current” and “credible” allegations. This agreement was designed to prevent the investigation from turning into a fishing expedition.
“A summary of all the tips the FBI received was available to all 100 U.S. senators,” read McCormack’s second point.
If the information about the tip line was actually new, it would not have been available until now. If the information was actually concerning and credible, the Democrats would have brought it up before now.
Mike Davis, who was the chief counsel for nominations on the Senate Judiciary Committee during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing, was confused about the Democrats’ sudden outrage.
“If there was anything that caught their attention, they could have flagged it for further investigation,” Davis told National Review.
The third key detail, according to McCormack, was: “We have good reason to believe that none of the supposedly ‘compelling leads’ were actually compelling at all.”
Mike Davis also made a point about this detail, noting that “Every whack-job in the world called into that thing. That’s why there were 4,500 [tips]. Grassley’s team went through the entire tip-line. It was nonsense.”
McCormack also further elaborated on this detail, writing:
“New York Times reporters Kate Kelly and Robin Pogrebin spent nearly a year investigating Kavanaugh for a book they published in September 2019. The only new allegation they reported was patently absurd: The two reporters hyped a new allegation that, while at Yale, Kavanaugh was allegedly standing around naked at a party when Kavanaugh’s ‘friends’ allegedly ‘pushed his penis into the hand of a female student.’ The alleged female victim in this incident had no recollection of it.’”
If the Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media were unable to find anything credible enough to attack Kavanaugh with before his confirmation, then there is likely nothing to find. In their desperate attempts to prevent him from being confirmed to the court, the left searched everywhere for anything that could disqualify him. They were even desperate enough to believe Julie Swetnick’s absurd claims about a gang rape party, which shows how little they could find that would tarnish Justice Kavanaugh’s record.
The left’s attempts to revive the investigation are nothing more than a partisan witch-hunt designed to distract the public from the abysmal failure of the Biden White House, and to attempt to find a new boogeyman since Donald Trump has been completely deplatformed.
