Yet another lawmaker has fled the Democrat Party in response to the party’s support of child sex changes, this time a Texas state representative who was outraged when her colleague told her to “just hold your nose” and vote for the horrific policy.
Texas state Rep. Shawn Thierry, who represents House District 146 that includes part of Houston, announced that she would be leaving the Democrat Party during an appearance at the Moms For Liberty event in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
While on stage, Thierry explained that the Democrat Party “has veered so far left, so deep into the progressive abyss, that it now champions policies that I cannot, in good conscience, support” — citing policies such as “promoting sex changes for vulnerable children” and “dismantling Title IX,” among others.
Thierry further explained during the panel that the issue of promoting sex changes for children is the main concern she has about the Democrat Party, noting that many of her fellow Democrats “privately” agree that the policy is insane, but refuse to speak out or vote against it out of fear.
“I’ve talked to a lot of my different colleagues from the national level all the way down to the state, and privately, many of them agree with us,” she said.
“Many of them came to me and said, ‘Shawn we know it’s wrong to castrate boys.’ I’ve had a lot of black colleagues say it’s wrong to castrate black men, to sterilize girls,” Thierry added.
She went on to recall one instance in which a Democrat colleague told her to “just hold your nose” in response to her concerns, noting that Democrat leadership “will destroy” any Democrat who would not do this.

Thierry also posted a lengthy thread on X about her decision, where she expanded on the motivation behind her move to quit the Democrat Party.
“I know that by making this choice, my choice, I will face relentless attacks, criticism, and mischaracterization,” she wrote, in part. “But I will complete my faith walk. Scripture reminds us in Job 13, ‘Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.’ And so, I trust that God will guide me and cover me as I step into this new chapter of my life.”

Her announcement was celebrated by many conservatives — including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), who responded to her post, writing: “Proud to welcome Rep. Shawn Thierry to the Republican Party! Democrats abandoned her after she supported a law I signed to protect Texas children. The radical leftist agenda doesn’t align with most Americans. Look forward to working with Rep. Thierry to build a brighter future.”
