By all accounts, it now seems as though the quest for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) to become House Speaker is over.
Jordan again lost his vote in the House.
However, this time he lost support, which is not a good sign.
No Room to Spare
Jordan only has four votes to spare, and there are at least four Republicans who have vowed never to vote for him.
He is yet another casualty left in the wake of Donald Trump’s fight against the 2020 election results.
Numerous members of the House in the GOP caucus have stated they will not support him for that specific reason.
There have also been rumors flying around that members opposing Jordan have been threatened.
In one case, a member’s wife received a text message, telling her that her husband’s career was over.
The messages are apparently being sent by a burner phone, so they have no idea if it is someone in Jordan’s camp or just some whacko.
Whoever it is, however, is doing Jordan no favors by sending the texts out.
Jordan says he will keep going, however.
He stated, “We don’t know when we’re going to have the next vote but we want to continue our conversations with our colleagues.
“We’ll keep talking to members and keep working on it.”
I just don’t see Jordan changing minds at this point, so it may be time for the House to either vote for Speaker Pro Tem Patrick McCarthy (R-N.C.) to have more power or identify a candidate that everyone will actually get behind.
