ICYMI – Just when Democrats start to get a good news cycle going, low and behold, someone tripped.
This time it would be former California Democrat congressman TJ Cox.
Cox faced 28 felony charges.
It would honestly be a shock to see him get sentenced to less than 10 years in jail.
Going Down
Cox was running a scam long before he entered office, but being a congressman surely added a little extra punch.
Cox was scamming businesses out of big bucks by making unrealistic promises to them, some of which were surely anchored around his congressional run.
The scam started in 2013 and over the next seven years, he managed to put about $1.7 million into his pockets.
He also scammed a $1.5 million loan with fabricated bank statements.
All his work got him 28 indictments, including, 15 counts of wire fraud, 11 counts of money laundering, one count of financial institution fraud, and one count of campaign contribution fraud in the Eastern District of California.
If his sentence is not concurrent, he could be in jail for as long as 55 years and be ordered to pay up to $1.5 million in fines.
