Up until 2016, when I said the voice of the Dodgers, there was only one name that should have come to mind.

That name, of course, would be Vin Scully.

Sadly, the brilliant broadcaster is gone, having passed away at the age of 94.

An Icon is Gone

Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten stated, “We have lost an icon.

“The Dodgers’ Vin Scully was one of the greatest voices in all of sports.

“He was a giant of a man, not only as a broadcaster, but as a humanitarian. He loved people. He loved life.

“He loved baseball and the Dodgers. And he loved his family.

“His voice will always be heard and etched in all of our minds forever.”

Starting out in 1950, Scully painted a picture so vivid that when you heard him describe the game, you just closed your eyes and were transported to the stands.

He was the model that many who followed tried to imitate, but nobody ever came close.

He was a truly unique voice in a sport where there were very few that could match his mastery.

Off the top of my head, I can honestly only think of two others that were on par with Scully for their own unique voices associated with the teams they announced.

Rest in peace, Vin, as you were truly one of a kind.
