If you are a Pittsburgh Steelers or Philadelphia Eagles fan, we have some bad news for you.
Charles Johnson is dead.
Johnson was a standout WR for both teams in his prime, but he was relegated to a role player for the final two years of his career.
So Young…
Johnson was only 50 years old, and yet another former NFL player to die well before his time.
The cause of death has not been released.
The Steelers drafted Johnson with the 17th overall pick in the 1994 draft.
He had a solid career with Pittsburgh, putting up respectable stats.
He was a breakout WR, meaning if he could get in the open field and the QB could get him the ball, he was gone.
That particular characteristic helped out Donovan McNabb early in his career with the Eagles, with Johnson having two solid years with that organization and helping to mold McNabb.
That was the last of it, however.
Although he won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in his penultimate season, he barely saw the field.
His final year in the NFL was spent with the Bills, again, barely getting any touches.
After a single season with Buffalo, Johnson moved on and was working in the athletic department of a local high school at the time of his death.
We will keep an eye on reports when a cause of death is announced and update this report if it is anything out of the ordinary.
