In her latest insane rant, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg defamed a Staten Island bakery, and calls are ramping up for an apology for her egregious lies.
Earlier this week, Goldberg used her position on the ABC talk show to accuse a bakery on Staten Island of refusing to serve her based on her political opinions. She told the show’s shrinking audience that she had placed a large order of Charlotte Russe cakes to celebrate her 69th birthday live on air, but the bakery declined the order — as they told her that “their ovens had gone down.”
Of course, Goldberg did not believe that legitimate excuse, instead using the incident to push her victimhood narrative — claiming that the true reason that the bakery based in deep-blue New York had declined her order was because of her political views, prompting one of her co-hosts to dramatically spit out her bite of the cupcakes.
“They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them,” Goldberg said.
“It’s not… because I’m a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics,” she falsely claimed.
The business owner has confirmed that she turned Goldberg away because of issues with the boiler, but were eventually able to make 50 cupcakes in time for the show, which were picked up by someone else — which is likely the reason behind Goldberg’s false claim that the bakery was willing to serve someone else her order.
Whoopi said on The View that a bakery refused her cupcakes order due to her liberal stance. However, Jill Holtermann, who owns Holtermann's Bakery on Staten Island, said that they were unable to meet the order due to a boiler issue.

Although Goldberg refused to name the business, the bakery has since been identified as Holtermann’s Bakery on Staten Island. The business has vehemently denied the accusation, pointing out that they had been having issues with the 60-year-old boiler when Goldberg came in to place her order on November 15. This has been confirmed by other customers of the century-old bakery, including artist Scott Lobaido, who said that his family frequents Holtermann’s Bakery and has been turned away in the past because of issues with the boiler.
Goldberg received significant backlash over her egregious lies on air, with widespread calls for her to apologize for slandering the business — including from Staten Island borough president Vito Fossella (R), who spoke out at a press conference outside of the bakery on Friday.
“Recently someone took to the national airwaves and defamed, frankly, this family business,” he explained. “We’re here to stand up for one of the best families and businesses, not just in Staten Island but in the country.”
Fossella added: “Frankly, the people who defamed the Holtermann family should apologize … for making stuff up to suit their needs. Not everybody wakes up every day and thinks about politics.”
The business owner, Jill Holtermann, also spoke out during the press conference, thanking the community for their outpouring of support following the controversy and revealing that she has been receiving nonstop calls since Goldberg’s comments, including from out of state.
“I’m so overwhelmed by the support. Between finding out yesterday, this even happened, getting phone calls and then people coming in and people from all over just supporting us in every way,” she said. “We had phone calls yesterday from Alabama. Guys, I’m going to give you $50, send it to a school, send them donuts, send them cupcakes. The support has been so overwhelming and I know how hard my family has worked to keep this business alive.”
Trump winning was a turning point in this country.
Whoopi Goldberg made a lie up about this bakery to try to cancel them today…
And in response, the ENTIRE COMMUNITY came out to fight back.

Others on social media also jumped in to defend Holtermann’s Bakery, including Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY).
“We stand with Holtermann’s Bakery, a 146 year old Staten Island staple! And shame on Whoopi Goldberg for disparaging this small business!” she wrote in a post on X.

New York state Assemblyman Mike Tannousis (R) also posted in support of the bakery.
“Proud to stand with Holtermann’s Bakery after it was slandered by Whoopi Goldberg on @TheView. The type of elitism and ignorance demonstrated by her on her show is the reason why our nation has become so polarized,” he wrote.
