War Veteran Pulls Gun on Man Trying to Enter Her Car: ‘Locked and Loaded’

War Veteran Pulls Gun on Man Trying to Enter Her Car

An Air Force veteran and mother was sitting in her car in gridlocked traffic with her two year old son when all of a sudden, a man started pulling on the handle of her passenger door.

A Louisiana mom and veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan pulled a gun on a man who was attempting to get into her car while she was stuck in traffic with her two year old son.

“You shouldn’t have to navigate your own city like a war zone. It’s un-American,” Charise Taylor told local news outlet WDSU. “The crime is out of control and it’s terrifying. At this point, having to use the same tactics in an American city that you use in Iraq and Afghanistan simply to navigate through the city, it’s scary, and I’m not the only mom feeling this way.”

Taylor was driving to pick up her husband on Interstate 10 in New Orleans on February 11th when she got stuck in traffic. While she was sitting in her car, a group of people in a truck got her attention and motioned for her to let them into her lane. She obliged, but soon after, a man walked up to her passenger door and began tugging on the handle.

“So, as he comes up he’s close, and he’s pretty aggressive trying to get the car door open, makes eye contact with me, he’s still trying to get it open a couple times,” Taylor said.

In response, she picked up her gun. Taylor recalled warning the man: “It’s locked and loaded.”

Thankfully, the suspect ran off, and she was not forced to fire her gun, but Taylor said that she was ready to do so if necessary to protect her son.

“The emotions honestly your body takes in a different form. I stayed in my body of course, but everything transformed. I’m trained to do this. I’ve gone to classes. I’m prior military. If I have to pull this trigger, that’s what I have to do,” she said.

Taylor filed a police report, but she was concerned because the incident was only classified by the police as a “disturbance,” according to WDSU.

The New Orleans Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
