In a heartfelt moment at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Wednesday, former President Donald Trump’s eldest grandchild stepped up to the microphone for the first time to tell the American people about her view of her grandfather.
Kai Madison Trump, the 17-year-old daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife Vanessa Trump, was handed the microphone by her father after he joked that this could be the first and last time that anyone sees a member of the Trump family giving a microphone to someone else. The heartfelt moment between father and daughter led to a short speech about the more personal side of the 45th president.

She began her speech by explaining that her goal that evening was to show the American people “the side of my grandpa that people don’t often see,” and went on to tell stories about having fun golfing with Donald Trump and how proud he was when she made the high honor roll.
“He’s just a normal grandpa,” she explained. “He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking.”
“When we play golf together, if I’m not on his team, he’ll try to get inside of my head,” she continued. “And he’s always surprised that I don’t let him get to me. But I have to remind him, I’m a Trump, too.”
She went on to discuss a more serious topic with RNC attendees, explaining her feelings as her grandfather faced political persecution and an assassination attempt.
“Even when he’s going through all of these court cases, he always asks me how I’m doing,” she explained, adding: “On Saturday, I was shocked when I heard he had been shot. And I just wanted to know if he was okay. It was heartbreaking to know that someone would do that to another person.”
“A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell. And he’s still standing,” she continued, prompting the crowd to give her a standing ovation amid the heartfelt speech. “Grandpa, you are such an inspiration and I love you… He truly wants the best for this country, and he will fight every single day to Make America Great Again.”
Donald Trump Jr. later spoke about his daughter’s speech during an interview with Real America’s Voice, where he explained that he would have never asked her to give a public speech because he feared how the “truly bad people” on the left would respond, but he accepted her decision to speak solely because she was “so passionate” about speaking out about her grandfather in the wake of the assassination attempt.
