Last week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was asked if he would endorse Donald Trump.
He refused to commit, saying that he had not really discussed it yet.
I thought for sure that would anger Trump, but apparently it did the complete opposite.
Stand by Your Man
Trump had endorsed McCarthy for Speaker during the election cycle.
That being the case, I was sure he would have expected McCarthy to endorse him without hesitation.
When he did not do that, I thought for sure Trump would pull back and maybe endorse someone from the Freedom Caucus.
Trump, when asked if he still stood by McCarthy, responded, “Yeah, I support McCarthy.”
He continued, “Look, I think this: Kevin has worked very hard.
“He is just—it’s been exhausting. If you think, he’s been all over. I think he deserves the shot.
“Hopefully he’s going to be very strong and going to be very good and he’s going to do what everybody wants.”
On the Freedom Caucus pushing back, he stated, “But I have to tell them, and I have told them, you’re playing a very dangerous game.
“You could end up with the worse situation.
“I don’t even want to say what it is, but I could tell you it’s a worse situation.”
I am sure of the scenario that Trump is envisioning, but it sure would be nice to hear what he thinks will happen.
