On Sunday, President Donald Trump made a major announcement that sent shockwaves through the Republican presidential race and will likely solidify his nomination for the Republican ticket.
In a post on Truth Social, he declared that he would not take part in any of the upcoming debates scheduled by the GOP.
This comes as no surprise considering that he has yet to sign a loyalty pledge which is required for participation in these forums.
With this decision, many are wondering what impact it could have on his presidential nomination.
The announcement came soon after the release of a recent CBS poll which showed Trump leading with an impressive 62% of votes compared to his closest opponent who is lagging far behind at 16%.
The public sentiment appears to be quite clear – they know who Trump is and what kind of successful presidency he had before.
During his term, we saw energy independence established, strong borders and military implemented, some of the biggest tax cuts ever seen as well as economic growth unprecedentedly high.
It’s no wonder that people are rallying behind him once again.
Earlier this week, reports from The New York Times suggested that instead of participating in the debates, President Trump was planning on sitting down with former Fox news host Tucker Carlson for an alternative interview.
The day and time chosen is Wednesday night during the time when the first debate will be taking place so perhaps this will be his way if addressing issues without having to go head-to-head against opponents.
As for now there is still much speculation around what exactly he plans on doing during the other two scheduled debates.
