It’s clear to see that Trump has been and continues to be the leading candidate for the Republican nomination, with an average 56.6% support, according to RealClearPolitics. So, naturally, many are wondering who Trump is considering for his potential running mate if he officially wins the nomination.
Well, recently Trump has suggested that he may pick a woman as his vice presidential running mate.
In an interview with NBC News’ Kristen Welker, Trump said he “I like the concept [of picking a woman], but we’re going to pick the best person. But I do like the concept, yes.”
He also specifically discussed Republican Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota who had given him “a very full-throated endorsement” at a recent rally.
He went on to say that she would be one of those considered for VP or something else in his administration.
Moreover, Mr. Trump noted that there are indeed many other qualified women in the party whom could potentially fill this role should it be decided upon by both himself and his campaign team.
Despite her qualifications and support for President Trump, Governor Noem has been subject to some criticism due to allegations of an extramarital affair with one of Mr. Trump’s political advisors Corey Lewandowski according to reports by The Daily Mail and New York Post – claims which she denies vehemently.
However, it remains unclear whether or not these rumors will have any impact on her chances of becoming Vice President should Donald Trump win the election.
Trump also addressed questions surrounding cognitive health tests following criticism directed towards President Joe Biden’s mental fitness for office at age 80.
In response, he mentioned how two years ago he took such a test at Walter Reed hospital and “aced it,” while adding that “frankly think testing would be a good thing”.
