Despite the assurances of the medical companies and the cries from Democrats about the necessity of COVID vaccines, many Americans are skeptical about taking it.
The world is currently awaiting the release of Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine, which may be authorized for emergency use as early as this week.
According to a survey from Pew Research Center, approximately 4 out of 10 Americans (39%) say they would definitely not, or probably not, get the COVID vaccine. Around half of this group told researchers that their minds may be changed after people begin getting vaccinated, but 21% said their mind would not change, even with more information.
Dallas Labor and Employment Attorney Rogge Dunn told CNBC that many of his corporate clients are contemplating making vaccines mandatory for their employees. This is concerning for the many U.S. employees who may refuse to take the vaccine due to doubts about its side effects, efficacy, or necessity.
“Under the law, an employer can force an employee to get vaccinated, and if they don’t take it, fire them,” said Dunn.
According to Dunn, many businesses, including one of his restaurant clients, believe that being able to advertise that all of their employees have been vaccinated may be good for business.
“They think it gives them a competitive advantage,” Dunn said.
These decisions may be more about luring customers than the safety of their employees, but it is still within the rights of the employer to require the vaccine.
According to news outlet 8 News Now, “There would be exceptions, however. These would include workers who don’t want to be vaccinated due to medical reasons — protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act. If religious beliefs would be violated by vaccination, it’s possible an employee could be covered under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”
It is also possible that union workers may be able to negotiate with employers about the mandatory vaccine.
Nevertheless, this revelation is disturbing and shocking to many Americans, many of whom may not fall under these exemptions.
