While the world’s attention has been focused on the Israel-Hamas war in the Middle East, there remains a forgotten tragedy taking place in Sudan. Since April 15, over 9,000 people have been killed with over 5.6 million displaced from their homes due to conflict between government forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In addition, 25 million need humanitarian aid. This has resulted in an appalling human rights crisis with reports of mass killings, sexual violence against women and children, ethnic targeting and obstruction of relief efforts. Yet despite these atrocities receiving little media coverage or public attention, this is an issue that needs to be addressed now more than ever as it could potentially create a ‘Somalia’-like situation in Central Africa if left unchecked.
The findings from the United Nations are truly shocking; they report credible evidence of ethnically based attacks including rape against women and children while 6 million people have been displaced from their homes but only 600 demonstrating outside White House about it compared to massive protests across Europe for the Gaza war.
Richard Goldberg of Foundation for Defense of Democracies told Fox NewsDigital “there’s no mob outside the White House to stop the indiscriminate killing of thousands in Sudan” further adding “these extremists only seem agitated by Jews who lawfully defend themselves”. Martin Griffiths U.N Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs described it as “bloodshed and terror” which shows how severe situation really is on ground throughout Sudan with WFP delivering food to over 3 million people under very difficult circumstances while funds available shrink making humanitarian dollar stretch to breaking point already.

The Biden administration’s response has been lackluster at best with State Department spokesperson telling Fox News Digital that they are appalled by escalating violence and human rights abuses in Sudan, especially RSF attacks noting that there can be no military solution here. They are calling for talks between SAF and RSF leading towards cease-fire and unhindered humanitarian access.
Eric Reeves researcher on Sudan believes neither side can be trusted to abide agreement signed while talks Jeddah have proved futile till now making him fear Rwanda genocide like situation could occur soon if something isn’t done fast.
