As if there wasn’t enough controversy with the Clintons…here’s more to add to the pile.
Americans have been familiar with the story of Bill and Hillary Clinton since the 90s.
Their marriage was thrown into the spotlight when Bill’s affair with Monica Lewinsky became public in 1998.
Now, 24 years later, author Mark Penn is claiming that Bill had pushed for an open marriage between them, although Hillary wasn’t on board.
This idea of an open marriage has been a subject of much speculation over the years as more stories about his affairs have come to light.
Penn stated that “it’s not hard to conclude that Bill and Hillary Clinton didn’t have at least a one-way open marriage. Perhaps it was not by choice, but the stories accumulated over the years until the fact of it became apparent.”
It is difficult to imagine how this would be possible for any couple, let alone one in which both parties are incredibly powerful figures in politics.
Although they may have forgiven each other for past wrongdoings, it seems as though there remains some tension between them today– whether or not they choose to publicly address it or not.
In interviews and public appearances, Hillary has always spoken highly of her husband while never bashing him for his infidelity.
On top of this, she also continues to remain devoted to their relationship despite all that has happened in order to ensure her own political agenda remains intact.
According to Fox News, she also assured her fans “that they [the Clintons] have forgiven each other for past wrongs and have developed a strong marriage as a result.”
Penn asked what this could mean for couples across America if this kind of arrangement was considered acceptable behavior from such powerful figures in our society: “If this was the model of the first couple…what did it mean for the rest of us?”
While we may never know what really happened between Bill and Hillary Clinton’s marriage during those tumultuous times back in 1998–it is difficult not to see how damaging something like this could be if taken lightly by our nation’s leaders today.
