It would appear that Democrats have found another target for removal on the Supreme Court.
After two flag “incidents,” there are now Democrats calling for Alito to step down from the bench.
At the very least, they want him to recuse himself from all January 6 cases that could go before the court.
But the Flag!
It is apparently okay for Democrats to wear Palestinian flags and garb, but if a conservative flies a historically significant flag, all hell breaks loose.
I am sure that by now, you have heard the tale of Justice Alito’s wife flying the American flag upside down at their home over a feud with a neighbor.
Well, he also apparently flew the “An Appeal to Heaven” flag at his vacation home.
The fact that some of the rioters on January 6 were holding this flag now has Democrats up in arms.
This is not a controversial flag in any way, as it was flown by naval vessels during the Revolutionary War and has long been attached to part of Massachusetts history.
The flag itself served as the official maritime ensign for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, but the script was removed in 1971.
The flag itself was designed by General George Washington’s Secretary and commissioned in 1775.
The outrage among Democrats has gone through the roof, with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) now demanding that Alito recuse himself from January 6 cases after the New York Times called the flag a symbol for January 6.
Mark Paoletta, a senior fellow at the Center for Renewing America, tried to bring some common sense to the conversation, stating, “The left claims to uphold norms but violates them by inventing recusal standards to pressure and delegitimize the court. The goal is power, not ethics.”
I should also note, that flag is flying outside the offices of several members of Congress right now, so this is not a big deal.
