There is a new player in town and people are starting to sit up and take notice.
A new round of polls has been taken and Governor Glenn Youngkin is suddenly on the table.
Youngkin smashed Joe Biden in the latest Roanoke College survey.
Enough?
So, we expect Youngkin to do well in his home state, but these numbers really got my attention.
The report stated, “The poll — which chronicled the responses of 585 registered voters in Virginia over a 10-day period (Feb. 12-21) — had the Republican Youngkin (55%) beating Biden (39%) by 16 percentage points in a general election battle.”
Also of note was Youngkin’s approval/disapproval rating.
That is now sitting at 57-35, his highest marks since he was elected.
The question, obviously, is how well could he do nationally, right?
Do I think he has enough of a profile to throw his hat into the ring to be get elected as president?
Not at all, and I think before he even considers doing something like that he needs to have served a full term as governor.
However, VP is very much on the board, especially when you consider how poorly Republicans have done in this state over the last four elections.
If Youngkin is on the ticket, the GOP pulls Virginia and its 13 electoral votes, which is a 26-point swing, possibly enough to win a tight race, as we would expect to be the case in the next election.
Just some food for thought, as Youngkin clearly has me rethinking my VP strategy.
