Now is the Time…GOP Ready to Pounce

Manchin

Senator Joe Manchin is up for re-election in 2024.

His popularity has waned during this cycle, coming off an election where he only won by three points, after a convincing win in 2012.

The GOP can see this is the time to pounce, and a big dog may be announcing very soon that is a very real threat to Manchin retaining his seat.

Not Buying It

Manchin has always touted himself as a centrist, but that is simply not true.

He usually votes with Democrat leadership.

More importantly, he lies, often.

For instance, after Dems took over the Senate in 2020, Manchin said he would not support using reconciliation to pass budgetary measures.

Right out of the gate, he went back on his word.

He did it again just before the election with Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which does nothing to actually reduce inflation.

Manchin has been exposed as a fraud, and that shows in his approval ratings, which are getting lower all the time.

Rep. Alex Mooney (R-W.V.) has already announced that he is running, but is he a big enough name to take out Manchin?

If he isn’t, the Republican governor of West Virginia might be.

Jim Justice recently announced that he is “very seriously considering running for Senate.”

If he does run, I think Manchin is history.

Justice is not willing to commit just yet, however.

He stated, “I have not made a final decision yet, you know, but I promise you irregardless to whatever I do, I’ll be your governor the next two years.

“I’m not going to sit around and just hang out. I don’t believe in that. I’ll be your governor.

“I truly believe the people in the great state of West Virginia are with me in whatever decision I make. I’m sure they’ll be right with me, as they know without any question, I’ll be right with them.”

Ironically, if he runs and wins, it would be a similar path that Manchin took to his seat, having served as the Governor of West Virginia through 2010 until he won a special election for the seat held by the former KKK member, Senator Byrd (D-W.V.), who had passed away in the middle of his term.
