A forty-eight-year-old South Carolina woman, a ‘road rage Karen’ if you will, is safely behind bars after she fired multiple shots at another driver who observed her driving recklessly and began following her as they dialed 911 to report her. The woman identified as Kyla Lashann Clayton sped off after firing on the other driver. Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop and as the officers approached her vehicle she fled and began a high-speed chase with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office where her speeds exceeded 120 mph.
According to a statement from The Chester County Sheriff’s Office,
“During the pursuit, Clayton struck a vehicle near the intersection of Dawson Drive and Lowrys Highway before continuing north into York County at speeds greater than 120mph. As the chase continued north on Hwy 321, Clayton maintained high speeds, passing a school bus and running multiple vehicles off the road.
The chase ended at the York County Government Center where Clayton was apprehended by York County Deputies and Chester County Deputies without incident.
After the chase, three handguns, a rifle, and two bags of ammo were found in the vehicle. Clayton did not fire shots at law enforcement, and there were no injuries to any party. Charges are pending. This investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.”
‘Road Rage Karen’ May Have Had Serious Mental Problems
Facebook comments from Chester County, South Carolina locals on the Sheriff’s statement shed some additional light on Clayton’s possible mental state.
One user seemed to express that she was not in her right mind at the time of the incident, writing “So sad she has not good sense her son passed but that is no reason to do what she done I am so glad that no one got hurt or killed I pray that she gets the help that she needs my daughter and her where good friends when they where in school it breaks my heart that she is having these issues”
Another Facebook user seemed to agree, “I’m not condoning her behavior either but she has been through a lot the last month and I really hope they can get her some help”
A third person commenting indicated that Clayton was known to have psychological problems, “She lived next door to me for a few months couple years ago.. she has too many loose screws to count.. always paranoid and someone is always out to get her.. my husband has known her and her family his entire life.. sad..”
Another person identifying themself as a friend of the family stated that her father had passed away in 1989, her son was recently killed in a car accident in Georgia, and her mother also just passed away, they also indicated she had an ongoing substance abuse problem. While it’s easy to paint someone as a meme, in this case a ‘Karen’ it’s important to understand the story, and how much of a blessing it is that no one was hurt on what was very likely Kyla’s worst day.
