Charles Grassley just scorched the earth with his criticism of current FBI Director Christopher Wray. On Monday, the Iowa Senator issued a “brutal rebuke” of Wray’s time on the job, and took a full 11 pages to do it. In general, he’s demanding the chief instigator clean out his desk now, before he gets fired. Kash Patel will soon be getting his office. The sooner, the better for America.
Senator Grassley lets loose
Anyone who follows the palace intrigue of Capitol Hill knows there’s no love lost between Senator Charles Grassley and the Federal Bureau of Instigation’s director. None of us can forget the time Christopher Wray flat out lied to the conservative senator, to escape a controversial Senate hearing in 2022.
Chris eventually confessed, under oath, that he “cut short his appearance at a Senate oversight hearing in August to take a break in the Adirondacks using the official FBI jet.” He went fishing.
Shortly afterward, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley held another oversight hearing where he “tore into Wray” like a starving tiger meeting an unwary antelope. Hawley was appalled by the director’s “indefensible” conduct.
He made a point of noting “that Wray had implied to Senator Chuck Grassley he had to leave as part of his official duties.” Fishing isn’t one of them.
Bailing out suddenly “denied Republicans the chance to grill him over whistleblower allegations of a cover-up in the FBI’s investigation into first son Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings.” Hunter’s pardon won’t make what Wray did go away.
Kash Patel is just chomping at the bit to find out what his predecessor has really been up to these past few years. Senator Grassley wants him on that job yesterday.
And your deputy, too
Wray’s not the God fearing type, so Grassley didn’t exclaim “for the love of God,” but he was thinking it as he typed “for the good of the country, it’s time for you and your deputy to move on to the next chapter in your lives.”
Deputy Director Paul Abbate has also become highly unpopular. The Iowa senator has “no confidence” at all in Wray’s “continued leadership of the FBI.”
Wray was counting on holding the title a few more years because he was appointed to a 10-year-term. That’s not carved in stone. The director serves at the pleasure of the president and it’s crystal clear that President Donald Trump isn’t pleased.
His replacement, Kash Patel used be an investigator for House lawmaker Devin Nunes and “quickly grew to become a prominent figure in GOP circles.” The Department of Justice spied on him. That was just confirmed by the DOJ’s own Inspector General in a recently released report. Senator Grassley loves Kash Patel. So does his colleague Iowa Senator Joni Ernst.
“Kash Patel will create much-needed transparency at the FBI,” Senator Ernst posted. She’s the head of a new DOGE Caucus. “He shares my passion for shaking up federal agencies, downsizing the D.C. bureaucracy, and having public servants work on behalf of the American people!” Wray would rather be fishing.
Grassley will also never forget Wray’s two-faced double standards. “The FBI under your leadership turned a blind eye to information contained in the FD-1023 that was prejudicial to President Biden.” It detailed the Ukrainian pay-for-play bribery scheme. Meanwhile, “FBI agents conducted an unprecedented raid of President Trump’s home in Florida to serve a warrant for records.” Pack your desk.
