It’s time to address the obvious political bias from Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who has been doling out harsh sentences to non-violent January 6 defendants while allowing violent Black Lives Matter protests from 2020 to go unpunished.
House Republicans have had enough and are taking action through Congressman Matt Gaetz’s introduction of a resolution that would censure and discipline Judge Chutkan over her open partisanship in the former President Donald Trump’s case as well as call for an investigation by the House Judiciary Committee into her handling of cases related to the Capitol protest.
It is deeply concerning that a United States District Court judge would exhibit such blatant political bias from the bench. Judge Tanya Chutkan has routinely handed down extremely harsh sentences to non-violent protestors involved in the January 6 incident at Capitol Hill with no criminal record whatsoever.
For instance, Christine Priola who was simply holding a sign saying “the children cry out for justice” was given a 15-month sentence.
In another sentencing hearing for a defendant who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges, she not only framed these protesters as “insurrectionists” but also questioned their loyalty to America, claiming they were only there “for one man”.
Furthermore, she went on to describe those present at Capitol Hill as a “violent mob” attempting to “overthrow the lawfully elected government” and posed “real danger…to our democracy”.
She even remarked that these protesters “soiled and defaced” the halls of Congress which showed their disrespect towards law and order.
U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is leading this charge against judge Tanya Chutkan by introducing his resolution demanding her censure and discipline along with an investigation by the House Judiciary Committee into her handling of these cases related to last year’s Capitol protest.
This is something he believes should be taken seriously due to her blatant political bias being displayed on court proceedings.
He stated: “It is deeply concerning that a United States District Court judge would exhibit such blatant political bias from the bench”.
Furthermore, he has laid out strategies like defunding Jack Smith’s multi-million dollar investigation into former president Donald Trump and requiring him (Smith) himself appear before Congress via transcribed interview or subpoena him if he does not comply.
This is all in an attempt hold everyone accountable including prosecutors themselves.
