A Miami mom has been arrested after she allegedly set her home on fire while her husband and son were still inside. According to the arrest documents, Tamika Amanda Dorsett claimed to be having hallucinations as she was pouring lighter fluid on the floor of her family’s home.
The 36 year old mom of one was arrested on Monday, December 27th, at her home in the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami, Florida.
Dorsett’s husband told police that he was asleep on the couch on the first floor of the family’s home when his wife woke him up and told him that the neighbor’s children were in the house and she wanted them to leave. According to the arrest documents, due to her hallucinations, Dorsett allegedly claimed that the children were hiding in the closet.
Tamika Dorsett then set the home on fire while her 9 year old son and two others were still on the second floor of the house.
Thankfully, no one was injured due to the quick action of the woman’s husband, who was able to get everyone out of the house before the firefighters arrived.
After putting out the house fire, Miami firefighters later determined that the home was no longer safe to live in. American Red Cross volunteers have stepped in to help the family, according to reporting from 7 News Miami.
Dorsett is now facing charges of first degree arson, child abuse with no great bodily harm, and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
She is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
