Kevin McCarthy finally got a debt ceiling deal done with Joe Biden.
McCarthy is claiming a fairly significant win.
There are, however, plenty of Republicans that do not agree.
Banking in Bipartisanship
It seems to me that McCarthy is banking more in bipartisan support than he is in the complete support of the GOP on this.
From what I have seen of the deal, it will more than likely not get the support of the Freedom Caucus.
Nor do I believe it will be supported by the progressives in the Democrat Party.
As long as it stays in the middle, this will easily pass, however.
This could also be a strategic move by McCarthy because he has literally laughed off resistance from the members of his own caucus that have pushed back.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) was among those that were not happy with the deal.
He stated, “1st – the leadership playbook is to line up cheerleading on phone calls to demonstrate ‘unity.’
“2nd, not 95% – I know of more no’s than that already.
“3rd – they haven’t been educated yet on what a turd-sandwich this ‘deal’ is. They will be.”
I believe the legislation will pass, but I also believe that it will present McCarthy with some challenges moving forward.
