McCarthy Passes First Major Legislation

“Show me” politics is well underway in the House.

McCarthy’s GOP passed its first real piece of legislation this week.

The bill would defund the 87,000 IRS agents that Biden wants to add.

Fruitless

The new bill is called the Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act.

The bill would leave funding in place for IT and Customer Service positions, but the active agents that would be used for audits would be defunded.

I am not going to go into too much more detail because the bill was dead the moment it went to the Senate.

This is headline-grabbing by the GOP and nothing more.

It is what I like to call “statement legislation.”

In other words, it is a complete waste of time other than to allow some politicians the ability to tout legislation they have passed.

I would much rather they work on something that will get passed or that can start a real debate than to waste taxpayer time and money passing legislation that will never even see the Senate floor.

Any Republican that is now telling you “we just repealed the IRS funding” is a liar and should be immediately called out for it.

Republicans that are touting this as a done deal are just embarrassing themselves and giving Democrats fodder for them not actually understanding how a bill becomes a law in this country.

Even Sean Hannity is buying into the rhetoric…

Make no mistake about it, that is all this is.

They finally have the majority and they are doing nothing but wasting time so far.

Get to work, Mr. McCarthy.

If you want to pass statement legislation, make it legislation that helps get us out of this mess and puts Biden to a decision to either help the American people or hold a partisan line.
