Literally, since the first day that Justice Clarence Thomas took the bench, Democrats and liberals have been dead set on removing him.

Over the last few months, Dems and the media have lobbed a few more bombs on Thomas, specifically on trips he received from a well-known GOP donor.

Thomas has claimed this is a longtime friend, and they were not required to be reported due to the fact it was a friend and not, technically, a gift.

We can argue semantics about this ally day, but the bottom line is that these types of trips are given to justices all the time.

Equal Justice

To that very point, I have often stated that if you want to dig into conservative justices, fine, but do the same for the liberal ones as well.

Well, someone did, and they found something pretty juicy about Justice Sotomayor.

The report found that her staffers were pressing schools and libraries where Sotomayor had been booked as a speaker to buy copies of her books.

For instance, in one example, a school was hosting Sotomayor and agreed to purchase 60 books to have on hand for signing at the event.

Sotomayor’s camp wanted them to buy 400, you know, just to be “safe” in case there was a big run on the requests for signings.

The Supreme Court spokesperson defended Sotomayor, stating, “Judges, including Justices, routinely travel and speak to university, college and law school audiences and affiliated individuals and entities.

“Judicial staff play an important role in assisting on issues of ethics, travel, and security.

“Chambers staff assist the Justices in complying with judicial ethics guidance for such visits, including guidance relating to judges’ publications.

“For example, judicial ethics guidance suggests that a judge may sign copies of his or her work, which may also be available for sale, but there should be no requirement or suggestion that attendees are required to purchase books in order to attend.”

See how they get really cute with the wording?

The problem was never requiring attendees to purchase books to go to the event.

The problem is in requiring the host to buy books so attendees can purchase the book from them if they want one signed.

It is all theater, my friends, all theater.
