With the death toll now hitting tens of thousands, people and political leaders across the world have been calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. And while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused a ceasefire altogether, he recently has stated he would be open to “little pauses” in Israel’s fight against Hamas.

At this point, it is unclear whether any kind of pause was agreed to or if the United States government is satisfied with the Israeli commitment.

U.S. President Joe Biden had directly appealed to Netanyahu on Monday, November 6, regarding humanitarian pauses in order to facilitate aid deliveries and the release of hostages taken by Hamas during their October 7th raid into Israel.

Despite this appeal, there has not yet been an agreement reached between both parties according to the White House statement.

In a recent interview with ABC News, Netanyahu said that there would be no ceasefire unless those who have been taken hostage are released first.

The Associated Press reported:

“Netanyahu ruled out any general cease-fire without the release of the more than 240 captives seized by Hamas in its Oct. 7 raid into Israel, but said he was open to “tactical little pauses.” U.S. President Joe Biden had raised the need for humanitarian pauses directly with Netanyahu on a call earlier Monday, but no agreement was reached, the White House said.

The Palestinian death toll in the Israel-Hamas war surpassed 10,300, including more than 4,200 children, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza.”

This is a developing story.
