Iran-Backed Terrorists Attack US Military Base, Americans Injured

Several American soldiers were reportedly injured on Monday when Iran-backed terrorists launched a missile attack on the Ain al-Assad Airbase in Iraq.

There were two explosions reported near the base, which houses U.S. troops, according to the news outlet Iran International.

“The IRGC-affiliated Sabereen News says Iran-backed militant groups have launched a rocket attack against the US base,” the outlet wrote in a post on the English-language version of its X account.

Speaking with Reuters, three U.S. officials confirmed that several American personnel were injured during the attack, which comes as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise amid Israel’s continued efforts to eliminate terrorist groups that wish to wipe the Jewish state off the map. These American officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Reuters that the information being relayed could change, but thus far it is highly likely that the attack came from an Iran-backed militant group.

“Base personnel are conducting a post-attack damage assessment,” one U.S. official added.

Security sources told the outlet that the missiles, which were both Katyusha rockets, fell inside the Ain al-Assad Airbase.

This information has been corroborated by several sources, including a statement to Newsmax from a Defense Department spokesperson, which read: “We can confirm that there was a suspected rocket attack today against U.S. and Coalition forces at Al Asad Airbase, Iraq. Initial indications are that several U.S. personnel were injured. Base personnel are conducting a post-attack damage assessment. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

This direct attack on American troops comes one week after the U.S. conducted a strike within Iraq against individuals that the U.S. identified as militants preparing to launch drones. Officials asserted that these militants posed a threat to American troops and coalition forces.

Hostilities in the region have only continued to escalate, especially as Iran has vowed to retaliate for the killing of a high-profile terrorist, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, inside Tehran.

The Pentagon has already confirmed its intention to deploy more fighter jets and Navy warships to the Middle East amid the ongoing threats from Iran and the terrorist groups it supports, Hamas and Hezbollah.
