A young group of LA County Sheriff recruits were hit on Wednesday.
A group of about 75 recruits were out for a run when tragedy struck.
A car veered out of its lane and plowed into the recruits, hitting about 25 of them.
At least five of those have what are being described as life-altering injuries.
Horrific Scene
The only thing that stopped this from being worse was a telephone poll that the vehicle ran into, otherwise more of these recruits would have been hit.
The driver, only described as a 22-year-old Hispanic, is in custody and cooperating with police.
However, at this time, the cause or motive is not known.

According to police, the vehicle suddenly moved into the oncoming lane while traveling at 30 to 40 mph.
Four recruits suffered moderate injuries, 16 suffered minor injuries, and five were in critical shape, having suffered a combination of head trauma, broken bones, and in some cases, amputations.
The driver was given a sobriety test and was not under the influence at the time of the incident.
