Twice-failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was roasted on social media for lying about a GOP bill, claiming that it “threatens” voting access for millions of married American women.
Clinton made the post on X on April 10, where she outright lied about the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which will require individuals to provide proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections. The bill passed in the House with the support of all 214 Republicans and four Democrat lawmakers.
“Update: The House just passed the Republican voter suppression measure that threatens voting access for millions of Americans, including 69 million women whose married names don’t match their birth certificates,” Clinton wrote. “Make sure your senators know you expect them to stand against it.”

The bill, which was introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), will “amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office,” and instruct states to remove all non-citizens from voter rolls.
Despite the lies pushed by Clinton and other Democrats, the bill actually orders all states to create a process for applicants who lack certain documents to submit alternative evidence to verify their citizenship. Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) explained this in a previous post, writing, “FACT: The SAVE Act directs states to establish a process for discrepancies, such as a name change, so that individuals can still register to vote. This bill lists forms of identification that a voter could provide when registering to vote, but that voter only needs to provide one document, including a driver’s license or any valid government-issued ID card.”

Of course, Clinton did not want to be inundated with comments calling out her lies, so she turned off comments on the post. However, that didn’t stop Republican lawmakers from “quote-tweeting” her post to respond.
“Stop. You are lying. Read the bill. And for the love of God, stop treating women like they are incapable or idiots,” wrote Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL).

“Anyone with a fourth-grade reading level can see that Hillary Clinton is not telling the truth about this bill. Here’s a helpful fact sheet from Senator Mike Lee that lays out the facts,” wrote David Closson, Director of the Center for Biblical Worldview, sharing a screenshot of the fact sheet.

“False. Most women have IDs other than their birth certificates, & the SAVE Act includes a provision to ensure that discrepancies between a woman’s married name & the name on her birth certificate can be resolved. The SAVE Act only suppresses cheaters,” wrote The Heritage Foundation, sharing a video debunking the lies.

“Hillary Clinton argues that the SAVE Act ‘threatens voting access’ for ‘69 million women whose married names don’t match their birth certificates’ If that were true—and it’s definitely not—the same women would be unemployable as they’d be unable to complete an I-9, which requires proof of citizenship Her argument proves too much, is refuted by the plain text of the bill, and cannot withstand review,” wrote Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT).
