It is with great sadness that we report a tragic, fatal gym accident in Bali on Saturday morning, 15 July 2023.
33 year-old Justyn Vicky, a well-known bodybuilder, nutritional advisor, and personal trainer from East Java who had been living in Bali for years was attempting to squat press a weight of 180 kg when he tragically fell forward and snapped his neck.
Vicky was rushed to the hospital but sadly died shortly after from severe neck and spinal injuries.
A video of the moment the fatal accident occurred has been circulating online.
It is unclear if this misadventure could have been avoided or if there was some degree of fault on behalf of the single “spotter” standing behind Vicky who failed to save him from this dangerous situation.
The tragedy begs us to ask what factors may have contributed to Justyn Vicky’s death?
Was it simply an unavoidable mistake or did some degree of negligence exist?
Could proper safety protocols not have been followed in order for such a devastating incident as this one to occur?
There are obviously many questions that remain unanswered at this time but what is certain is that Vicky’s death will leave many without their beloved friend and mentor too soon.
As news spread across social media platforms about Vicky’s death, shockwaves were sent through his community with tributes pouring in from different parts of Indonesia as friends expressed their sorrow over losing such an admired individual so suddenly and unexpectedly.
Many shared heartfelt words describing how much they will miss him while others posted photos celebrating his life and honoring his legacy as a bodybuilding icon.
