One of the most vicious cartel members of our time is now in custody.
Rafael Caro Quintero, a founder of the Guadalajara Cartel, is now in custody.
Quintero was wanted for the 1985 killing of a Drug Enforcement Agent (DEA).
The Mastermind
Quintero was considered to be the mastermind behind the torture and murder of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.
Camarena was kidnapped in Guadalajara in early 1985.
Sadly, there was a transfer already in the works to pull him out of his assignment because they knew it was getting too dangerous for him.
The kidnapping took place a mere three weeks before he was set to depart.
When Camarena’s body was found a month after the kidnapping, it was clear he had been brutally tortured before being killed.
The case was the subject of the Netflix series “Narcos: Mexico.”
Quintero had been in prison, having served 28 years of a 40-year sentence, but he was freed on a technicality in 2013.
Mexican authorities recently arrested him in the northern state of Chihuahua, and he now faces extradition to the United States for his crime.
