When it comes to aging Hollywood stars, Halle Berry’s message about embracing the process is one that we can all get behind.
Recently, the Academy Award-winning actress made headlines after posting a photo of herself standing naked on a balcony while drinking a glass of wine and addressing critics who attacked her for doing so at 56.
While some may feel her choice was in bad taste and over the top, there’s no denying that her words about growing older are valuable and should be heard.
It all started when Berry took to social media to post an image of herself without clothes on. “I do what I wanna do,” she wrote alongside the image on Twitter and Instagram.
Though most comments were positive with fans praising her beauty, one person had something negative to say which prompted Berry to respond.
According to Fox News, she retweeted their post with this comment: “Did you guys know the heart of a shrimp is located in its head?”
This post has since been deleted but not before sparking conversation amongst many social media users.
Berry has previously opened up about enjoying getting older and told AARP how happy she is at age 56 with both her career and home life being successful.
But instead of trying desperately to look young by getting plastic surgery like many other Hollywood stars, Berry prefers growing old gracefully saying: “I refuse to become someone who just tries to hold onto a youthful face…beauty is deeper than the physical body you’re walking around in…we’re all going to get older…the more formidable we are.”
She believes older women should be seen as jewels for their wisdom rather than erased from society due simply because they’re aging.
Whether or not you support Halle Berry posing nude publicly isn’t really up for debate.
What matters most here is what she stands for when it comes it accepting aging gracefully.
That women shouldn’t be silenced or shamed simply because they’re getting older but rather celebrated instead for their wisdom gained through experience over time.
