Things are looking good for former U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret and combat veteran Derrick Anderson, as he has just received another big name endorsement in his bid to flip the highly competitive 7th Congressional District in Virginia from Democrats to Republicans. On Thursday, October 5, Sen. Tom Cotton announced his backing for Anderson.
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., a former Army Ranger, has publicly voiced his support for Anderson’s campaign and expressed his belief that he will be strong advocate for the state of Virginia if elected. In a statement issued to Fox News Digital, Cotton said “Derrick Anderson is a Special Forces Green Beret who will be a strong conservative leader in the U.S. House… I’m pleased to support him”.
Anderson was also honored by the endorsement and noted that he believed Cotton was someone who “gets the job done”.
Not only did Sen. Tom Cotton endorse Anderson’s campaign but last month he received endorsements from Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., Rep Brian Mast, R-Fla., and Rep Mike Waltz, R-Fla. All three are veterans themselves with Van Orden being a Navy SEAL, Mast an army veteran and Waltz being a former green beret like himself.
Furthermore Spanberger–the current incumbent–has announced she won’t run again in 2025 leaving this seat wide open for any political party looking to secure it ahead of 2024 midterms which currently see Republicans holding onto narrow five seat majority over Democrats in the house of representatives.
This means this district could prove pivotal if they hope build on that lead come election day next year as Biden’s popularity continues to decline among voters nationwide.
Now all eyes are on Derrick Anderson as he seeks to become an influential member of Congress representing Virginia’s 7th congressional district come midterm elections next year with hopes that his military experience combined with all these high profile endorsements will help swing popular opinion towards Republican side.
