Here we have yet another horrific example of the system betraying children and their families, as one Ohio social worker has been arrested for molesting a 13-year-old child she was counseling. 24-year-old Payton Shires, has been charged with one count of sexual conduct with a minor.
According to court records, the alleged incidents occurred in September, just months after she received her social work license. The National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) is cooperating with investigators but due to confidentiality reasons cannot share when Shires stopped working for them.
She was booked into the Franklin County Jail on October 6th and given a $500,085 bond.

The boy’s mother informed police that she had seen text messages between him and Shires. Court documents revealed that these texts included questions from Shires about whether or not he had deleted videos and if his mother had seen them or their messages.
This raised suspicion in the mother who then gave the phone to authorities to investigate further. Upon searching it, they say they discovered a video of Shires and the boy engaging in sex acts which the boy told them happened at least twice. On a call between investigators and the boy’s mom, police report that Shires admitted to engaging in sexual activities with him as well.
The NYAP issued a statement regarding this situation saying “Protecting children is everyone’s responsibility…NYAP has reported the situation to Franklin County Children Services (FCCS) and is collaborating with them and the Columbus Police Department.” They also specified that they could not reveal any information about when Shires stopped working for their organization due to confidentiality reasons.
She is set to appear in court October 16th.
An attorney representing her has yet to respond however, it is clear that swift justice has been called for due to her heinous actions against this young child entrusted into her care.
